According to nutritionists there is more than mere weight loss to be enjoyed by eating carbohydrates that are slowly digested. In fact, a diet that is filled with foods that rank low on the glycemic index can help clear up acne. At least, this is the case among adolescent males.
Research was conducted using 50 boys suffering from moderate to severe acne. Half were given typical teen fare and the other half were given a diet that used few processed foods and many whole grain breads, legumes, and pastas.
Whole grains are processed slowly by the body. This allows the body to avoid the wide swings in insulin levels. The wide swings are what leads to excess production of sebum, which ultimately results in acne among many younger men.
