The Great Fluoride Debate

Written by Shawn

We’ve all heard of it. But what exactly is it and why is there such a big controversy about something that we come into contact with everyday?

First let’s look at the two types of fluoride. The first, sodium fluoride, is a by-product of approximately 50 industries, such as agro-chemical & heavy manufacturing.

According to Phillip Day in his book Health Wars, President Lyndon Johnson’s Science Advisory Committee had named fluoride compounds “one of America’s four leading pollutants”. Pretty scary stuff. However, after fluoridation went into effect, hardly a thing was heard any longer against it.

The other type of fluoride is calcium fluoride. This is the form found in nature and it is less toxic than its calcium counterpart. It is also more soluble in water.

It is interesting to note that the first major proponent of fluoridation was the aluminum industry (Day, 2001). Why? Industries had a huge problem on their hands…

How To Save A Lot Of Money On Dentures In Colorado

Written by Shawn

Buying dentures is not cheap anymore by any means. The average cost of an upper denture alone is over $1250.00 (national average 2005 survey) and most dental insurance does not cover dentures because it’s considered to be cosmetic. So what does a person have to do in order to find affordable dentures? Well, one excellent option is called a discount dental plan.

Discount dental plans don’t work like insurance does. These dental plans simply offer you a big discount (up to 60%) off of the usual cost of regular dental care. They are an excellent dental care option because, unlike insurance which will not cover any condition that is considered to be “pre-existing”, you can still get a substantial discount if you need to be seen for an existing problem.

Here’s an example of a discount dental plan and how it will work in your favor. This example is going to be…

Most dental insurance won’t cover dentures because they’re considered to be cosmetic. Also, no dental insurance will cover any condition that was pre-existing when you bought the policy. In other words, if you were already missing teeth then you’d be on your own anyway.

One excellent option for getting affordable dentures is called a discount dental plan. Unlike insurance, discount plans do offer big savings on pre-existing conditions and other routine and major dental care.

Here’s an example of how a discount dental…

3 Ways Your Dentist Can Straighten Your Teeth

Written by Shawn

Many people who opt to have cosmetic dentistry procedures done have one main thing they are trying to achieve — straighter teeth. Though some of us are naturally born with straight teeth, others have to undergo braces or other straightening procedures like Invisalign to obtain desired results. And many times, once the braces are off, people don’t wear their retainers long enough to maintain their straighter smile. While dentists and orthodontists suggest that patients should wear their retainers for the rest of their life, this is rarely done because after awhile the patient often loses, breaks, or simply stops wearing the retainers.

Luckily, braces aren’t the only way that people can straighten their teeth today. Modern advances in cosmetic dentistry have yielded much simpler, quicker, and more comfortable methods. Invisalign, veneers, and reshaping all allow you to achieve a straighter smile.
