Outwardly, the three types available look all the same and may even be made from different materials, including plate form, subperiosteal, and root form. Each one is designed differently to ensure you get a long lasting replacement that keeps you looking your best. In order to tell which one you will need, the dental professional will need to match your bone structure to the correct style.

Plate Form Dental Implants

When your jawbone is too narrow, a plate form is the most effective method to use. The metal portion that sits beneath the gum line is long and flat. This allows the new tooth to sit along beside the jaw line. To install this, dentists cut down and expose an area of the jawbone after administering anesthetic. The implant sits into place and the gums are carefully secured into place. Some are attached to restore your smile instantly while other requires some time to heal in order for the metal to fuse onto the bone. The amount of space opened up will depend on how extensive the work is.

Subperiosteal Methods

When there is very little bone to hold the material, a specially made subperiosteal style form is the best choice. In all, there are two different ways dentist can install this style. A single surgery method requires a CAT scan and a special computer program to process the corresponding data to create a 3D model of your jawbone. Then, dental surgery is performed to expose the jawbone and lay in the plates.

With a dual surgery procedure, the gums are opened up and a special impression is made of the remaining bone. The form is then sent to a lab to form the plate. In the second surgery, the bone is exposed and the plate is laid into place.

Root Form Styles

These are shaped similar to your original teeth with a tooth like shape on the top and a screw like form that attaches it to the bone. These are best for good bone structures that are wide and deep. Dentists will open the jawbone, set the rod into place, and close the gums. It will then require three to six months of healing for the bone to grow around the metal. Otherwise, the pressure placed on your tooth through normal activities will cause the post to dislodge. Once it is completely healed, the oral care professional then needs to attach the tooth portion to the metal rod-like structure. This is done by using an extension under the tooth portion to connect it to the post.

Sometimes, patients do not have quite enough bone to hold the implants. At the same time, it isn’t narrow or worn enough to warrant plate or subperiosteal dental implants. In this case, the doctor can remove bone from one area of the body and graft it onto the jaw.

Whether you live in New York or Fullerton, dentists have several options to restore your smile to one you can be proud of. Dental implants do require healing time, but in exchange, you regain full use of your teeth. As an added benefit, they last for a significant amount of time.

Time is of the essence when you are confronting such circumstances, and you must know how to act if you are to preserve further damage to your health.

If the injury can’t wait then you are going to want to go the nearest hospital, or you are going to want to immediately call 911. If you are willing to put in the time to locate a dentist then you essentially can either contact the dental office that you are accustomed to doing business with, or you can go out and attempt to locate a dentist that may be on-call that evening. There are typically a multitude of these sorts of on-call dentists if you live in one of the major metropolitan areas of this country, and with the advent of the Internet it should not be that difficult to locate a dentist that can provide you with service in your area. If you do not have access to a computer then you can turn to your yellow pages instead, and while this may limit your search it can still give you the outcome that you wanted.

We’ve all heard of it. But what exactly is it and why is there such a big controversy about something that we come into contact with everyday?

First let’s look at the two types of fluoride. The first, sodium fluoride, is a by-product of approximately 50 industries, such as agro-chemical & heavy manufacturing.

According to Phillip Day in his book Health Wars, President Lyndon Johnson’s Science Advisory Committee had named fluoride compounds “one of America’s four leading pollutants”. Pretty scary stuff. However, after fluoridation went into effect, hardly a thing was heard any longer against it.

The other type of fluoride is calcium fluoride. This is the form found in nature and it is less toxic than its calcium counterpart. It is also more soluble in water.

It is interesting to note that the first major proponent of fluoridation was the aluminum industry (Day, 2001). Why? Industries had a huge problem on their hands with all of the toxic fluoride they were putting it out. So of course, let’s ‘wash it up a bit’…and feed it to consumers. What could it hurt?

Consider the Liucin Township. Eighteen of twenty two villages there had serious side effects from the fluoride in the water: hardened brown teeth, bowed backs, shrunken limbs, and early death. Over 80% of the people were severely affected. And no, this wasn’t 60 years ago. This was in 1981. (Seybolt 13)

Fast forward to today. Critics state there is no difference in the tooth decay rates of children in cities with fluoridation as compared to those without. Even worse, it may mask the real problems of decay; poor dental hygiene and way too much sugar. Fluoride has been shown to be harmful at certain levels in the body. The scary part is, research has shown that it may accumulate in the body over time.

Research has also shown that in fluoridated cities there is an increased risk of heart disease and cancer. Fluoride has been shown to cause genetic damage in lab testes, even turning healthy cells into cancer cells.

Many countries have already banned the use of fluoride, including France, Sweden, the Netherlands, and even some locales in the US. I for one will definitely be making sure that myself and my family stick to filtered water and as little fluoride containing products as possible!

They are an excellent dental care option because, unlike insurance which will not cover any condition that is considered to be “pre-existing”, you can still get a substantial discount if you need to be seen for an existing problem.

Here’s an example of a discount dental plan and how it will work in your favor. This example is going to be from the state of Colorado in the Denver area, zip code 80015, which is actually the suburb of Aurora. The cost of an upper denture using this particular discount plan in Aurora is only $694.00, a savings of $556.00 off the average national cost. Of course, this savings may be more or less where you live. Also, this estimate is based on high grade dentures, not cheap material.

The cost of joining a plan like this one is only $100.00 per year or $150.00 for a family. You’ll also continue to save money each time you go to the dentist for the entire year. Vision a pharmacy benefits are even available with some plans, as well as cosmetic dentistry. If you’re in need of dentures and the cost has been an issue, you should take a look at getting a discount dental plan. There’s a good chance that it just may be your best option.

The costs of dental care have gone through the roof over the past few years, just as in health care, and it’s becoming more and more difficult for most people on a moderate income to be able to afford to replace their decaying teeth with dentures.

One excellent option for getting affordable dentures is called a discount dental plan. Unlike insurance, discount plans do offer big savings on pre-existing conditions and other routine and major dental care.

Here’s an example of how a discount dental plan works.

This example is based on zip code 73110, which is Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I’m just doing this at random so please bear with me.

The first thing we want to do is find a participating dentist in this area, someone that accepts discount dental plans. By doing a local search I’ve discovered that there are 154 participating dentists within a 50 mile radius of this zip code.

Next, I want to see how much money I can save on dentures. The usual cost averages around $1250.00 nationally for an upper denture, so I’ll use that as an example. The plan that offers the greatest savings in this area gives a price of $694.00, a savings of $556.00 for your upper dentures. The annual membership fee for this plan is only $99.95 for an individual. If you have a family you can enroll them for just $50.00 more and save as much as 60% on dental care such as cleanings, fillings, root canals, crowns, x-rays and so much more.

The bottom line – if you are in need of affordable dentures then there’s a very good chance that you can save a lot of money and hassle by joining a discount dental plan. Look into it today!

Many people who opt to have cosmetic dentistry procedures done have one main thing they are trying to achieve — straighter teeth. Though some of us are naturally born with straight teeth, others have to undergo braces or other straightening procedures like Invisalign to obtain desired results. And many times, once the braces are off, people don’t wear their retainers long enough to maintain their straighter smile. While dentists and orthodontists suggest that patients should wear their retainers for the rest of their life, this is rarely done because after awhile the patient often loses, breaks, or simply stops wearing the retainers.

Luckily, braces aren’t the only way that people can straighten their teeth today. Modern advances in cosmetic dentistry have yielded much simpler, quicker, and more comfortable methods. Invisalign, veneers, and reshaping all allow you to achieve a straighter smile.

Invisalign

Invisalign is a revolutionary 21st century method of straightening teeth. Instead of harshly visible and uncomfortable metal braces, Invisalign manages to straighten teeth subtly with a series of nearly invisible plastic trays. These trays, called aligners, are custom made to fit your teeth and mouth and gradually shift your teeth over time.

At an initial consultation with a dentist or orthodontist, they’ll make impressions of your teeth, take pictures, and then work with a 3-D image. The dentist will be able to plan the movement of your teeth throughout the entire treatment, and you’ll be able to see a virtual representation of your teeth before and after the process. Custom sets of aligners are then made for you to wear, and at periodic check-ups the dentist will monitor your progress and keep giving you new sets of aligners that fit your teeth as they move.

Invisalign is an inconspicuous, convenient, more comfortable way to get the straight smile you’ve always dreamed of having. The clear, thin aligners are also removable, so eating, drinking, and brushing your teeth is so much easier than with braces.

Veneers

Veneers are a great method dentists use to correct discolored, chipped, broken, or crooked teeth. They can also cover up gaps between teeth. Made of porcelain, these thin shells are custom-made to fit over your existing teeth once a thin layer has been taken off the teeth. Veneers are very durable and can last for many years. They also look very natural, and hold up to stains quite well.

Contouring And Reshaping

Tooth contouring or reshaping is another method dentists use to correct minor imperfections. Crooked, cracked, chipped, and overlapping teeth can easily be straightened by simply shaving off a few millimeters of your teeth or adding a few millimeters of tooth-colored laminate. This procedure is often used to change the length, shape, or position of someone’s teeth, and is virtually painless. Dental contouring is ideal for people who have healthy teeth, and just need a dentist to make some minor adjustments or repairs to achieve a perfect smile.

With Invisalign, veneers, and tooth contouring, people have more options today than ever before when it comes to getting a straight and beautiful smile.
