Sunlight provides the skin with Vitamin D (which regulates calcium in the body) and serotonin, (which lifts and stabilizes our mood). But moderation is certainly key. Tanning is the body’s natural defense

against harsh conditions. Therefore, too much sun will wear the skin down and the result will be premature aging.

So what do you do if you want that summer glow? Makeup technique is all about cause and effect. With the right tools, you can create the effect of a glowing tan easily. First, be sure your skin is always moisturized. Moisturized skin encourages regeneration and allows makeup to go on smoothly. Dry, patchy skin absorbs makeup unevenly and blocks the pores from receiving moisture.

There are 3 types of sun effects you can produce with makeup. The most common is a bronzed effect. Powder based products are better suited for normal to oily skin, therefore bronzing powders are perfect. Normal to dry skin should use cr鑝e based or liquid bronzing products. Both will provide a soft and dewy tanned result. For a light natural look, apply the bronzer directly to bare skin areas such as the cheeks, nose, and eyes. Don’t forget to blend well and use sparingly. Also, pay attention to how your face looks when it is naturally flushed or tanned. Follow those same areas when applying a simulated effect. For example, when sweeping the cheeks, don’t forget about the bridge of the nose. The sun would hit this area naturally. To achieve a more finished tan effect, apply the bronzer over foundation and congealer. This would be followed by blot powder to remove any overly shiny areas.

The second sun effect is a glowing radiance effect. This is created by using creamy pink or peach toned formulations. Fluffy, lightweight, aluminizing creames that contain a hint of shimmer create a slightly

flushed radiant look. Remember the key is highlight so be sure and only highlight the areas that you want to draw attention to. For example, we would not want areas directly around the nose to glow, this would

look like perspiration.

The 3rd sun effect is the fashion forward shimmer. This is created using opalescent formulations. Pearly, reflective formulas float over the face and body like “liquid light” to brighten and enhance the skin. This creates a more intense, luminous effect that draws attention to various areas of the face. Dull can be transformed into luminous radiance.

For instance, the average woman absorbs 30 pounds of the ingredients contained in moisturizers over sixty years (Dr.Hauschka).

These new understandings of how the skin functions reveal concerns about the possible long term effects due to the combination of chemicals used in cosmetics, often termed the “chemical cocktail effect”. Several chemicals which are used in common, popular cosmetics are known irritants and carcinogens. Concern stems from the knowledge that most of these ingredients are derived synthetically or from petroleum. Avoiding these substances serve to decrease overall exposure to harmful or irritating cosmetic ingredients.

Ingredients to Avoid
Forms Found in Cosmetics and Possible Negative Side Effects

Aluminum

- Thought to contribute to Alzheimer’s Disease.

- Found in almost all antiperspirants.

- Works by blocking pores so sweat cannot be released by the skin.

Artificial colours

- FD&C, derived from coal tar.

- For example, Azo dyes are a risk to asthmatics, eczema sufferers and people sensitive to aspirin.

- Causes hyperactivity in children, severe headaches, blurred vision and itchy/watery eyes and nose (Antczak, 2001).

Benzoates

- Benzoates Benzoic acid, sodium benzoate or parahydroxy benzoate.

- Used as a preservative in cosmetics and fizzy drinks.Causes gastric irritation, numbing of the mouth and aggravates asthma (Antczak, 2001).

Certain essential oils

- Rosemary is harmful to epileptics.Sage is not recommended for pregnant women.

DEA, MEA, TEA

- Causes allergic reactions, irritating to eyes and dries out hair and skin (Fairley, 2001).

Dibutyl phthalate

- Found in all persons tested by the CDC (Center for Disease Control, USA) in a 2000 Fall study.

- Highest levels were found in women of reproductive age.

- Causes birth defects in animals, and damaging to the male reproductive system (ABC News, Internet Ventures 2000).

- Used in cosmetics to assist the absorption of other ingredients.

Formaldehydes

- A preservative.

- Causes skin reactions.

- Imidazolidinyl urea is the second most identified preservative causing contact dermatitis ( American Academy of Dermatology: Fairley, 2001).

- DMDM hydantoin

- Quaternium 15

- Diazolidinylurea

- 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1

- 3-diol

Fragrances

- Can contain up to 200 undeclared substances (Fairley, 2001).

- Major cause, in addition to artificial colours, of skin irritations and allergies (Antczak, 2001).

- May cause dizziniess, skin irritation and hyperpigmentation (Fairley, 2001).

Genetically Modified Organisms

- Soy, Corn

- Effects still undetermined.

Isopropyl Alcohol

- Drying agent, from petroleum.

Keratolytic chemicals

- Such as hydroxyl acids, retinoic acid.

- Corrosive, used in skin peels.

- Dissolves the stratum corneum of the epidermis (outermost layer), making skin more sensitive to sun damage.

- Accelerates production of dead skin cells; the skin thickens to repair its surface so that vulnerable skin cells underneath are protected from the effects of skin peeling.(Antczak, 2001).

Methylisothiazolinone

- Causes allergic reactions and irritations (Fairley, 2001).

Parabens

- Petroleum product.

- Triggers skin irritations and may be an xerestrogen (Fairley, 2001).May play a role in falling sperm counts and rising breast cancer rates (Fairley, 2001).Used in 99% of all cosmetics (Fairley, 2001), and in many so-called ‘natural’ products.

Parraffin

- Derived from petroleum.

- In the form of wax, mineral oil or petrolatum.

- Comedogenic, i.e.blocks pores.

Propylene Glycol

- When derived from petroleum.

- Increases the amount of acid in the body, resulting in metabolic problems.

- Large amounts are needed to produce this effect (Agency forToxic Substances and Disease Registry or ATSDR, 2003).

Sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate

- Forms carcinogenic nitrogen compounds when combined with specific ingredients.

- Irritating to eyes, skin and lungs (Antczak, 2001).

- Harmful if swallowed and may cause damage to eyes (Antczak, 2001).

Tallow

- Animal fat.

- Not suitable for vegans, and may be a skin irritant.

Toluene

- Found in many nail products and nail polish removers.

- Produced during the process of making gasoline and other fuels from crude oil or coal.

- Evaporates into the air when products containing toluene are opened.

- May affect the nervous system, and/or cause tiredness, confusion, weakness, nausea, or loss of appetite.

- Symptoms disappear when exposure is eliminated (ATSDR, 2003).

In Canada, not all cosmetics list their ingredients on their labels, but most have toll free telephone numbers which link you to their customer service departments, where inquiries about ingredient lists can be made. Reading labels and recognizing problematic ingredients are necessary skills for a consumer who intends to choose products that are completely natural. The cost of a cosmetic is not a reliable indicator of either its quality or natural characteristics. Most cosmetics, from the lowest priced, to the most costly brands, are composed of identical base ingredients (Begoun, 1991).

Cosmetics do not stay on the surface of the skin without penetrating to some degree. Lipstick wearers, for example, consume 1.5 to 4 tubes in a lifetime (Aveda). If one considers the ingredients being internalized by the body, absorbing plant oils and waxes, mineral pigments or essential oils is a healthier alternative than absorbing petroleum by-products and synthetic chemicals. The ability to choose the right cosmetics for you depends on accurate ingredient knowledge, personal needs and market choices. Caring for one’s whole body includes skin care choices that support and contribute to a healthy lifestyle.

Natural cosmetic products and make-up are safer, healthier alternatives especially when these products are composed of all natural ingredients. A natural product is described as one that contains mostly or completely naturally derived ingredients (Antczak, 2001). It also indicates that the product is free from, or contains minute amounts of artificial chemical additives. Caution is required when products claim to be natural. For instance, they may contain small amounts of plant extracts, but the bulk of the product is petroleum based and loaded with fragrances. Instead, consider switching to completely natural products, which perform to the same standard as their non-natural counterparts. The Organic Make-up Company offers a wide range of simple, affordable and high quality products. Our cosmetic products are carefully formulated from plant waxes, plant oils, essential oils from flowers, barks and spices, as well as richly coloured mineral pigments.

Switching to all-natural cosmetic products and make-up can help you to avoid feeding your skin harmful chemicals. Many skin problems, such as acne, contact dermatitis, irritations and allergies may disappear once petroleum or synthetic ingredients are removed from your skin care regimen. Using fully natural products can contribute to healthy skin and a healthy body in the long term.

We invite you to give our natural products a try. They are completely natural, vegan and an excellent alternative to conventional cosmetics and make-up.

Do not feel bad if you are one of those women who think that changing fashion and trends every three months is absurd. A lot of people feel the same way, especially now that the price of almost everything has risen astronomically. No one in her right mind, except probably the ultra rich, can religiously continue to change her wardrobe every quarter.

If you feel this way about fashion, you probably also despise the changing colors and fads of the makeup industry. The electric blue eye shadow that has been in vogue in January might already be a fashion faux pas in September. However, there might be some logical explanation behind these fashion transformations. For one thing, makeup does not last as long as bags, shoes and clothes. If you value your skin and safety, you need to understand that makeup has an expiry date just like other consumable items.

So when do you ditch your makeup? Here are a few tips that might help you decide:

Storage Is Very Important

Much like other commodities, the price of makeup is on the rise. Thus, it would only be wise to maximize the life of your makeup as much as you can. One way of making sure that your foundation, mascara or other cream-based stuff don’t go rancid or congeal prematurely, you need to store them in places that are cool and dark. Do not leave them out in the sunlight because some of the important ingredients, such as preservatives, could decay or break down.

Oxygen is also among the number one enemies of makeup. Thus, it would be best to keep the lids and caps of your beauty kits secured when not in use. Leaving them open would make oxidation faster.

Cream Vs. Powder

If you have a relatively smooth and blemish-free face and you really do not need to cover your face with tons of makeup everyday, it would be best to choose a powder-based makeup rather than a cream-based variety. Powder-based foundation, concealer, blush or eye shadow usually lasts longer than its cream-based counterpart.

The rule of thumb is to throw out your cream makeup after one year. When it comes to foundations, however, the ones that have oil as a base can last about 18 months — far longer than the ones that are water-based. Powder varieties can last for 24 up to 36 months, depending on how you store and take care of them.

Mind The Smell And Texture

Since there is really no expiration date printed on the boxes or bottles of makeup, it would be quite tricky to know when to throw them. As a general rule, however, you need to toss your foundation and other beauty paraphernalia when it changes color, texture and smell. These changes usually mean that bacteria are starting to take up residence in your makeup.

Be Careful With Mascara

One of the makeup products that you need to take particular care of is the mascara. A lot of women have gotten eye infection from using bacteria-infested mascara and other eye products. First, you do not want to share mascara with other people. Sharing this particular makeup is a fast way to spread infection. Next, if you have an eye infection, you need to throw your old mascara as soon as possible. Lastly, mascara is usually only good for three months.

Effect Of Retinol

It is important to note that the effectiveness or the potency of Retinol in makeup usually lasts for only a month. However, do not ditch the makeup yet because you can still use them to cover your blemish, give you rosy checks, or brighten up your eyes for a few more months.

It might be more practical if you just buy an ordinary makeup and an eye cream that can help get rid of fine lines, puffy eyes and dark circles. One eye cream you can rely on in banishing your eye problems is Eyelastin.

You will have kissable lips that will look like they were painted on by an artist. Liner also helps prevent you from coloring outside the lines so to speak.

Lipstick The next step is to apply lipstick. The lipstick you choose will be the base color and will determine the shade of your lips for that day. There are many options available including neutral colors, pinks and reds. You will have to makes the decision beforehand about what look will be heavier-the lipstick or the lip gloss.

Lip gloss In the final step, you select a gloss that compliments the shade of lipstick you chose. If you chose a subtle lipstick color, you can enhance the color with clear lip gloss or pick a more vibrant, colored gloss. If you chose a bright lipstick, you should pick a subtle lip gloss. It adds shine and finishes off the look for a great pout!

Light make up makes you look younger and more inviting to the opposite sex.

Stars like Halle Berry and Scarlett Johanssen sparkle with their bare, yet ultrachic look. Understated makeup is glam if you know how to pull it off. The secret lies in the strategic placement of color and the choice of color used.

First invest in a set of makeup brushes. The free ones that come with the compact wouldn’t do. Sure, those would be fine for touch ups but not when you’re actually putting on your face.

Next, get a foundation that matches your skin tone. Not to light, not too dark. Get a shade that is just right. Or get two shades of the same foundation, one darker, one lighter and blend them together until they match your skin perfectly. Or you could use a tinted moisturizer close to your skin tone if you don’t need much coverage.

Forget about the goth girl heavy eyed look. Be daring. Bring out the natural beauty of your eyes with a soft shimmery eye shadow and use eye liner sparingly. Use your mascara to define your lashes but separate the lashes immediately with a clean mascara brush or comb.

For your lips, this Christmas, forget about garishly bright lips or deep wine lips. Those are so passe. Go for something nude. A shimmery nude lip gloss would be perfect. It is subtle, chic and naturally pretty.

Even with light makeup, you need blusher for radiance. Instead of bright rosy cheeks, go for a golden glow. Forget about fuschia, red, or anything that might make you look like an old fashioned doll. Go for the healthy glow. Cheat by using a caramel blusher. You get a glow that looks so natural they’ll think it is real.

When finished, instead of blotting the lips by biting a tissue, lay the tissue across both lips while your mouth is closed. This will imprint your lips, including the edges of the mouth where lipstick usually bleeds. Perfect!

It is particularly good for people who have sensitive skin or are already suffering with acne or rosacea, as it provides good coverage whilst still being light and non clogging. Most of the time it also depends on what they are using, from all the makeup items, it can also affect its results. Here are some of the makeup beauty tips that you can use. With every step of the tips, they are explained in as general as possible to get how the idea would work, also it covers on how makeup can affect your skin over time.

With various products on the market for beautification, it pays to know more about the ones that really work; you should always stick to reputable brands and not experiment on very cheap brands as it may contain undesirable ingredients that are waiting to destroy your skin. From mineral foundation, lipstick, mascara, eyeliners, eye shadows and other makeup tools, you can find the right ones over the Internet from user reviews. You can check out their reputation or better yet, you can request for samples to assess its effects.

MAKEUP APPLICATION

The first thing before you apply makeup is to be clean. Have your face washed with your favorite soap and let it dry before application. The problem with not having a clean face may eventually clog your pores. Furthermore, the makeup ingredients will likely blot over and will leave a strange feeling, good hygiene is always a must in beautifying faces.

When starting on the lips, you can just either follow the lip line or ditching the pencil for lining the lips. You can just brush it gently using a lipstick. You can also use a lipstick brush for preference.

When you want the effect of protruding lips, you can make use of your highlighter. You need to concentrate on the important areas such as the sides of your lips, just notice the indentation on the upper lip. In addition, you should notice it on the area between the noses.

The next step, is to use a light hue of foundation or even just simply a highlighter if you don’t have one. This effect will reflect natural light, it will give the impression of protruding and seductive lips.

Where lipstick plays a vital role in makeup application, it can make the task complete. If you wish to get a great result, you can rest your elbow on the table and get a better grip and practice on how to remove smudges.

You can then use just a narrow brush to correct the lines on your lips. You can use some other tools such as lip pencils and lip gloss.

When you have an uneven lip color, you may need a balancer to blend in and unify the look for your lips. The result can give way to making the lipstick be pure and clear when applied. This is one of the top makeup beauty tips.

If you want to care your skin with ayurveda it supplies both ancient and modern Ayurvedic secrets for beauty care.

We need many things to nourish our skin and they must include some essential oils or herbs in combination, which can nourish the skin and saves it from dehydration, otherwise it may be susceptible to wrinkles and premature aging. You must do one thing before going to bed and that is you have to eat regular meals at that time and follow a regular daily routine which includes essential components of a holistic approach to skin care, as are eating foods that help balance and nourish the skin.

Beauty Therapy

The rejuvenation therapy in ayurveda teaches ways to become naturally beautiful, which is not just limited to the physical body but on the other hand it extends to subtle qualities and vitality of a person. Hence rejuvenation therapy is regarded as an integral part of ongoing self-care that helps beauty be with you throughout life and a fresh start in the process of making health-supporting lifestyle changes.

Ayurveda says that happiness, gloom, sadness and relaxation is all the things reflected on the face and by the body. These conditions or expressions can’t be disguised with the makeup that is made up of chemicals. Ayurveda also emphasis of internal and external beauty and this is the specialty of ayurveda that it increases internal beauty by understanding and emphasizes external beauty by following basic tips of ayurveda.

Ayurveda is very much skeptical about wearing make-ups. Even an inch of makeup on face can’t hide the worries of mind, period. There is one important aspect of lavanya sutra, Ayurvedic beauty care treatise. It is not only the physical aspect that gives beauty to a woman, but also her mental bearings. The happiness of mind will be easily visible on face. So is gloom and worries.

Mineral makeup offers adjustable coverage, and women really love being able to use as much or as little as they want. Using the right tools is paramount when learning how to apply foundation makeup. The Kabuki brush provides the face with a flawless finish in a matter of a few minutes and it is used primarily to apply the mineral makeup foundation. For lighter applications of foundation, a woman has other choices at her disposal. The Light Coverage brush is perfect for applying light applications of foundation where needed.

A woman has the option of swirling the mineral makeup brush in the foundation while it is in the cap or she can dip the Kabuki brush directly into the product container. For smooth and even coverage though, it is important that the mineral powders are recessed deep into the bristles of the brush, and that any excess minerals are shaken off. The mineral makeup foundation is applied to the largest areas of the face and neck, and then it is followed by blusher, concealer, eye shadow and finally lip color. Always apply mineral makeup from the center of the face outward to the neck. The finished look will be one that is flawless, wrinkle free and glowing.

Mineral makeup foundation creates healthier skin because skin is able to breathe underneath the layers of foundation, blusher, and enhancers. The foundation is water resistant, and irritant free and made entirely of minerals found in the earth. Mineral makeup foundation goes a long way and it is possible to achieve a perfect look with less product because the minerals warm to the skin after they are applied.
