Embarrassing? Really?

Personally, I do not think it is, but many people are embarrassed that they should need to make use of a nose hair clipper. What is so embarrassing about needing to cut nostril hair? We all have hair that needs cutting, fingernails that grow, ears that produce wax, noses that need blowing, etc, so why is a nose hair clipper particularly embarrassing?

What will they say?

Maybe it is because we are concerned about what others will say when they see us using one? However, these same people probably also have a nose hair clipper and so our embarrassment is unfounded and in fact, we are probably only the only person who is bothered by it. The other person who we think will mind, is probably not concerned at all. This is often the case when we assume we know what others are thinking.

We judge ourselves far too harshly and a small item, such as our nose hair trimmer, becomes a really big deal that needs to be hidden away from the world. Out of sight and out of mind.

Could it be the nose hair itself?

Perhaps it is the hair in our nose itself, that is embarrassing? But why? As we get older, our hair begins to grow in some places and begins to fall out in others. This is the joke of life for men – that we often lose that which we want, and gain that which we do not want. That includes our weight as well as our hair. I agree that long nostril hair is an inconvenience that needs the attention of some kind of nose hair clipper. Just as our toenails need to be cut occasionally, the hairs in our nose and on our ears also need to be groomed and trimmed.

A woman’s perspective

From the perspective of many women, a mans protruding nostril hair showing in public is rather disgusting, and because women often have a greater attention to detail than men, they notice these things. If your boss is a woman too, then you need to be doubly concerned that you look after yourself and regularly chop those ear and nose hairs with a good nose hair trimmer.

Why are they there at all?

Of course, these hairs are there for a reason, aren’t they? For hairs in our nose, I can think of a reason. They may stop foreign bodies getting up our nose and they may partially filter and slow down the air arriving at our nostrils. Ear hair however, I cannot see any reason for its existence, particularly as we get older, the more of it there seems to be.

In good company

So, my friends, do not be embarrassed to own a nose hair clipper, you are in the good company of many men who like to keep up their appearance and to show that they care about the way they look in public. Many men do not look after themselves well, and neglect the needs of their body. These men can usually be identified by their unkept look and ungroomed appearance. Whether we realise it or not, appearance is so important both in a social setting and in the work environment. There is no shame in showing a clean, shaven, well-groomed face to the world and it may actually present more beneficial opportunities for you and give you an edge over your unkept colleagues.

Paul Wyllie writes articles related to mens grooming issues and in particular about the nose hair trimmer. Everyone should look after their appearance and getting rid of unsightly nose hair is one area where we can make a huge difference with only a small amount of effort. Take a look at the articles on his Nose Hair Clipper Blog and pick up useful tips that might save you time and effort.
