Tips For Eating Out While on a Diet
Here are some tips for staying on track with your diet while eating out at a restaurant.
Know your menu
If possible, go online and see if you can find the menu for the restaurant you will be visiting. This way you can pre-plan what you will eat. If the online menu has the nutritional information, be sure to go through the items on the menu to find some of the more healthy options. Also, by having a plan of what you will eat prior to going to the restaurant, it will be much easier to not be distracted by so many menu options.
Going to a restaurant hungry
We have those times where we’ve planned a night out to one of our favorite restaurants, so we don’t eat all day thinking that will help will our calorie consumption for the evening. We know the restaurant menu very well and we know it is full of our favorite, calorie packed foods. There are three major downfalls going to a restaurant when you are overly hungry. First, you will most likely want to order extra food items that you wouldn’t normally order if you weren’t really hungry. Second, you will be so uncomfortable with being so hungry, that you could end up making a not-so-healthy choice when you order your food. Third, once your food arrives, you will want to eat every bit on the plate and this will most likely lead to overeating, which leads to my next point.
Portion sizes
The amount of food being served at restaurants is close to double the amount of food an average person should be eating for a meal. The portion sizes at restaurants can affect any dieters calorie intake for a day. To help with the amount of food that you eat while at a restaurant, when ordering your food, request that half of your food be put in a takeout container. This way it’s already out of your sight and you won’t be tempted to eat more than you plan to eat. Or you could divide the amount of food in half when it’s placed on the table and plan to request a takeout container at the end of your meal. Or better yet, you could order one dish and split it with someone at your table. This will help you stay thinner and make your wallet a little bigger.
These tips will be beneficial when dining out at a restaurant.
