Now, there are many different types of cosmetic dental procedures but the most popular is definitely of the the laser whitening variety. In this article, we’ll explain what a typical laser whitening procedure should consist of.

Every good dentist will do two things before proceeding with this kind of a procedure. First off, he’ll give your teeth a very thorough examination. He’s basically looking for serious problems that could worsen if bleach is added. Things like serious tooth decay or gum disease will need to be sorted out before the whitening procedure commences. If all is good on the health front, the dentist will proceed with a good cleaning. It’s important that your mouth feels as good as looks – and no one likes the feel of a dirty mouth.

Now it’s time for the actual procedure. All systems and dentists are slightly different but for the most part they include the use of a peroxide gel and a laser. Now, keep in mind that the laser is actually more like a heat lamp of sorts. You don’t have to worry about anything zapping you while you’re sitting in the chair. The highly concentrated peroxide gel is applied to the teeth and sits there for about 15 minutes. The teeth are then cleaned before a second coat is applied. After another 15 minutes or so, the lamp is turned on and set above the mouth. The light from this lamp helps the gel to coat every inch of the teeth.

All in all, the laser whitening process takes about an hour and costs around $600. Most patients can get away with just one session as well.
